HIGHLANDER Sword Report: Martespa's Prototype of the Commercial Release of Connor MacLeod's Movie Sword

This sword originally appeared in some advertisements when the Highlander Official Store began marketing the "Official Sword of Connor MacLeod" as it appeared in the movie. It was made by Martespa, which is a subsidiary of swordmaker Marto of Toledo Spain, and sold through exclusive licensing via The Noble Collection (1-800-8NOBLE8).

Notice how close to the original movie katana this one is. The handle is the same Samurai-motif pictoral scene handle that Marto originally produced. The dragon head is almost nearly identical to the Highlander 1 movie prop.

However, this prototype never hit the market. The reasons are confusing. Somehow, third party manufacturers are not allowed to make anything "identical" without some drastic changes. Hence, the Sword of Connor that is available through The Official Highlander Store, The Noble Collection, and other mail-order houses around the world, is a far cry from this truly magnificent and legendary piece.
