HIGHLANDER Sword Report:
Adam Pierson (Methos)'s Ivanhoe Knights Sword
Featured left is the Sword of Ivanhoe, which is used by Adam Pierson, a.k.a. Methos, the oldest known Immortal living today. Pretty young looking for a 5,000 year old man! I found the weight to be medium to medium light. However, the balance was a bit poor, making the sword rather heavy overall, but not impossible to wield (the Black Knight, by contrast, was far more tuned for balance, howbeit not perfect). It's safe for very light "make believe" wielding, but don't use it blade-to-blade with another sword. The pommel also dug into my hand somewhat, making it uncomfortable, at times, to hold. Because the blade is made of stainless steel, do not use it in any form of combat re-enactment, as the blade will be scratched and nicked deeply. As you will gather from other articles here on the HSG, stainless steel is not an ideal steel for real swords, regardless of how "qualitative" it is, or where it's made, as much sales literature out there will try to pull on your purse strings! Art Gladius of Spain also has its own versions. Even Marto has variants of this sword. One version is in gold. Others are dubbed "Lionheart" and one even a "Lancelot" sword bearing the same shape. Fans often confuse all of them as the "Methos" sword, but the sword used is a bronze Ivanhoe. Overall - 40", Blade - 32-1/2", Weight - Unknown, Rockwell - 52-53 Rc
